Pumpkin season: Beauty inspired by October’s giant, orange fruit

Pumpkin doesn’t immediately scream ‘beautiful’, does it? But the fruit (well, strictly speaking, it’s a ‘gourd’) contains so many beautifying ingredients that it makes for spectacular skincare…

For a fairly unattractive fruit (gourd, whatever), it has much more going for it than its ability to be carved and used as a Halloween decoration (although who doesn’t love that?!). It is rich in alpha hydroxy acids, or AHAs, which help exfoliate skin and brighten complexion.

It also contains vitamin E which helps fight inflammation, reduces pore visibility, and controls oil production, while at the same time lessening the appearance of scarring and blemishes – those struggling with acne will really see the benefits of pumpkin-rich products.

Here are some I really rate:

Ole Henriksen The Clean Truth Foaming Cleanser

€30 from boots.ie

Red tea, citrus and pumpkin means this is a really brightening, freshening and deep cleaning cleanser – I love to use this in the morning when I need to feel super awake.

Emma Hardie Moisture Boost Vit+C Cream

€55 from cultbeauty.co.uk

Vitamin C, vitamin B3 and sweet almond oil combine with pumpkin in this super hydrating and incredibly brightening moisturiser. I love how great it smells – your skin not only looks like you’ve been in a spa but also smells like you have.

Tony Moly I’m Real Anti-Aging Pumpkin Mask Sheet

€6 from tonymoly.us

For a boost of a little bit of whatever skincare boost you need, there’s nothing like a sheet mask. The very beacon of self-care, throw this one on to reveal brighter skin straight away.

I found it also made my pores seems smaller – but that could be because I was distracted by the bounce in my skin.
