What you should be doing to your skin while stuck at home

What’s the best way to use your time at home to take care of your skin?

Want to use your time at home to boost your skincare routine? Here’s the expert guide to take advantage of your time at home to pursue your glowiest skincare goals.

As one of Ireland’s leading skin experts with a career spanning over twenty years, Corinna Tolan knows a thing or two about great skin. Whether it’s through her Instagram tutorials to her 32k followers, her online skin consultation service, her podcast, or her innovative products, we trust her to help. Her social media is full of skincare tips, so we asked her to guide us through what we can and should be doing for our skin with a little extra time at home.

“Working from home has many advantages, freeing up more time to invest in skin health being one of them,” says Corinna. “I often say your morning, and night-time routine is like brushing your teeth and you need a staple routine to feed the skin what it requires for it to be healthy, but there are other modalities that can be incorporated that will augment your results and bring you closer to your goals.”

Here’s Corinna Tolan’s guide to the at-home skincare you can do if you’ve got a little extra time at home.

Use your routine to take a little time to yourself

Use your routine to take a little time to yourself

Many skincare companies are now recognising the correlation between the brain and skin, with cortisol, the stress hormone playing a highly influential role in photoaging and inflammatory skin conditions. Environ Skincare launched a new night serum and have requested you wait 10 minutes before applying your next step. This time will ensure better penetration of the active ingredients within their new formulation, but also, the scientist is asking us to take 10 minutes of self-care, to rest and reset before continuing with your routine.

Invest in a home use gadget

Beauty tools were once considered for professional use only but since we entered a lockdown, there has been a massive rise in sales of devices for home use. If you need to wake up quickly, incorporating ice tools, like Cryo Globes, into your morning cleanse will rapidly lift and tighten the skin, reduce puffiness and give the appearance that you have been up for hours preparing for a morning meeting. Cryo Globes are like a swim at sunrise without having to leave your home/office.

Massage your skin

Gua sha, nicknamed ‘the Eastern facelift’ has been used for millennia in Asia and is where self-care meets science. A gua sha tool is shaped to take in the contours of the body and face. Follow specific massage techniques for myriad excellent benefits like increasing microcirculation, delivering oxygen and nutrients, and removing waste. Track your progress with weekly photos, and the results will be evident.

Mask while working from home

Face masks have come a long way since the clay “don’t make me laugh, or my face will crack” version. Many now are creamy and transparent and could easily be worn when attending a Zoom meeting. One of my favorites is the Mesoestetic Anti-Stress Mask. This mask will soothe, regenerate and intensely hydrate. You can wear it overnight for an intense treatment without ruining your bedsheets. If you like your beauty product to multi-task, I recommend Environ Clay Mask. It can be used as a cream cleanser, massaged into the skin to exfoliate and dissolve blackheads or leave for ten minutes to hydrate.
