Cream of the crop: A stylist’s guide to spring’s best cropped jeans

As the temperature begins to rise heralding the arrival of spring, I love a wardrobe refresh and embracing the lighter, more relaxed and effortless way to dress for the warmer months ahead – like cropped jeans.

As the days get longer, my jeans get shorter. One essential piece that seamlessly transitions from winter to spring and adds a touch of effortless style to any outfit is the cropped denim jean. Their versatility allows them to be worn both casually and also in a more elevated way making them suitable for almost any occasion. Whether paired with a crisp white tee or blue cotton shirt for a brunch date to a soft cozy sweater for a casual day out, cropped denim jeans elevate any ensemble.

One of the greatest attributes of cropped jeans is their ability to showcase footwear. Whether you choose a modern kick flare style to reveal a statement kitten heel for formal occasions or kick back in a relaxed boyfriend cut to display a cool trainer for off duty days, the cropped jean will see you through all eventualities. Cropped jeans offer a flattering silhouette for so many body types. Their slightly shorter length elongates the legs, giving the illusion of height.

Whether you opt for a classic skinny fit or the currently on-trend relaxed super wide leg style, cropped denim jeans tend to work for most shapes. The 80s high-waisted mom style is still relevant for SS24 but the low-rise hipster of the noughties is also making a comeback so choose your fit to suit your form!

The wash is entirely up to your own preference… I opt for a darker indigo tone for evening but a pale wash is always a more relaxed shade for daytime activities.

The long and the short of it is, embrace the chic and laid-back vibes for spring and incorporate cropped denim jeans into your wardrobe. Their versatility, flattering fit, and ability to effortlessly elevate any outfit actually make them a timeless essential for any season!

I adore these super cool Anine Bing stovepipe cut cropped jeans in a pacific blue wash and accented with a paint slash detail. The straighter cut and non-stretch 100% cotton denim fabric does suit a narrower frame.

These cropped jeans at Mango are a perfect style for so many body shapes. They’re a flattering high-waisted fit into a wide flared leg and have a slight stretch so are comfortable as well as cool!

For a more modern take on the crop, these tapered pair by Cos have a more fashion-forward silhouette and are made from 100% recycled cotton.

These soft, lightweight fit and flare pair from Polo Ralph Lauren are a very chic version of the cropped jean, with a pressed pleat and sand-blasted indigo wash. They are made from organic cotton and the exposed embossed button fly and embroidered brand pony on the rear give an elevated, sophisticated feel.

These booty-cropped jeans by Ba&sh Paris are the epitome of French girl chic. The retro low waist cut, slight boot cut and raw hem work effortlessly with a Breton stripe top, matching denim or crisp cotton shirt to channel that Parisienne je ne sais quoi.

These gorgeous barrel-cut cropped jeans in off-white from Zara are a brilliant high-street option. I love the slouchier fit and the ivory colour make them the perfect pair throughout the summer months. Another pair from high street favourite Zara that caught my eye were these fab indigo pair in a slightly wide-leg cut. Perfect for the evening with a statement kitten heel.

This classic high waist organic cotton cropped denim jeans from Sezane comes in a variety of colours so choose your wash without forfeiting the fit!

Levi’s are the original denim jean and I couldn’t discuss cropped jeans without including the iconic Levi brand. These true blue pair evoke a retro vibe yet still feel current and effortlessly cool.

Spanx have a gorgeous stretch-cropped jean, and they are one of the ultimate shapewear brands. These mid-rise and flared leg style promise comfort as well as a flattering silhouette.

These baggy wideleg cropped jeans from another high street favourite H&M are an example of laid-back cool. The loose fit and drape style also comes in an array of colours and are the perfect comfy pair for everyday adventures.

Paige, the LA-based brand encapsulates the effortlessly cool Californian lifestyle and these high-waisted blue wash cropped jeans are no exception. Wear these with a rock band tee and Converse trainers to emulate retro Cali-girl style.
