How the eighties power blazer has been brought bang up to date

The eighties power blazer is having another fashion moment. It’s first appearance was back when super-blazer meant super-sized shoulder pads and excessive embellishment. This season’s sartorial nod to the eighties is a lot less Dynasty’s, Alexis Carrington, and a lot more pared-back chic. It’s the structure of the blazer that does all the talking today. That and its surprising versatility; street style it up by cinching it in at the waist with a chunky belt and matching it to your favourite midi-skirt, or wear it long and loose over skinny jeans.

The simple structure of this blazer lends itself to this season’s brights. We understand wearing bold colours can be daunting, so the trick to pulling off this trend is… “less is more”. Pick one staple piece like the power blazer and wear it in a statement colour like this fuchsia pink. It ticks all this season’s trend boxes.

A belt is the perfect way to add a modern take to a blazer, super, or otherwise. Adding definition to an over-sized style creates a more feminine silhouette.

A black, leather studded blazer is not something you would expect to see for SS. But, thank goodness for it; let’s face it, most of our wardrobes are a sea of black anyway aren’t they? This Uterque jacket takes the embellished eighties blazer into the next century with it’s subtle hardware detailing.

There’s a hint of “Clueless” chic to this blazer and skirt combo. The streamlined stripe brings a demure feel to this blazer for a fresh summer look.
