This chic, minimal outfit formula is all over Instagram

It’s a spring outfit of perfection but the separates will last for seasons to come.

Waist down dressing is returning, but something interesting is happening.

When it comes to The Row, the most commonly used word associated with it, aside from maybe ‘rich,’ is ‘quiet.’ What makes Mary Kate and Ashley’s label so recognizable, despite being made up of unassuming, everyday clothing essentials, is quality. It looks expensive while being inconspicuous but with subtle codes; neutral tones, structured tailoring, no logos – quiet. In essence, miles away from the shouty, ostentatious clothing of your typical Instagram style set.

This is why the outfit taking over Instagram, seen duplicated on Kendall Jenner and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, is so fascinating.

It’s a beige, high-waisted pair of masculine trousers from The Row’s SS21 collection – Danielle Haim wore them too at The Brits, inspiring a slew of ‘step on my neck’ Tweets.

The trousers themselves have a relaxed, golf-course-in-the-90s quality – comparisons have been made to Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy – and have been worn by both Rosie and Kendall with very specific simplistic separates; a plush, understated, tucked-in white tee, strappy square-toed sandals, skinny black belts and an oversized, voluminous, long-sleeve, wide-open white shirt.

It’s a simple, breezy outfit formula you probably own at least 90% of, made up of good quality basics. What you’re probably missing is a neutral pair of wide-legged, high-waisted pants. Not to worry – we’ve created an edit of the best to buy now.
