All the best looks from the 2021 Golden Globes

Celebrities are just like us – they're all gasping for an excuse to get out of their sweats and put it on the 'gram without having to actually leave the house. Here's a look at the best-dressed from the 2021 Golden Globes.

While the entirely white Hollywood Foreign Press may have needed to be whisked away for a weekend in the City of Love to understand the worth of Emily in Paris as a best comedy TV show nominee, it seems a few wrongs were righted last night with a diverse range of 2021 Golden Globe winners.

However, besides President Joe Biden’s inauguration and a small buzz about the Superbowl, we have really been starved of live events, and in particular, fashion. With ongoing fashion weeks in some disarray without their live catwalk shows and no street style, we’ve had to wait until now to get our first real fashion fix of 2021.

And thankfully, the 2021 Golden Globes did not disappoint. With a mix of in-person attendees at the simultaneous casting from New York and LA, hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, and nominees watching from home, it seems that celebrities are just like us – they’re all dying for a chance to get dressed up. So what are the results of this first fashion outing of 2021?

The 1980s are back

From Kate Hudson and Elle Fanning to Nicole Kidman and Isla Fisher, there was a distinct whiff of 1980s nostalgia at last night’s Globes. From the introduction of chunky belts to puffy off-the-shoulder sleeves and peplums, Music nominee Kate Hudson really captured it all with her Louis Vuitton number.

Meanwhile, Elle Fanning looked like she was heading to prom via the DeLorean (and somehow pulling it off) in her aquamarine Gucci dress. The detail-heavy straps and the billowing sash gave it just that hit of royalty, coupled with a heavy cat-eye of old Hollywood glamour.

Nicole Kidman, nominated for her work in The Undoing, opted for a black Louis Vuitton high-necked dress that one thinks Donatella Versace would approve of, the iconic gold chain links embroidered up the edges.

Men’s Fashion taking a Seat at the Table

There’s always one or two exquisitely dressed men taking some fashion risks at the TV and film awards shows – usually Jeff Goldblum, Timothée Chalamet, Riz Ahmed, or Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things. However, this year was positively packed with gorgeous men’s fashion. Double nominee Leslie Odom Jr. had fun with a pink-brown palette, pairing a mismatched tweed suit with a crisp white shirt offset by a neon green polo neck from Maison Valentino.

Jared Leto, another lock to always raise the fashion game on the red carpet, went for an historical look, this time in a flared 1970s-esque Gucci suit.

And finally, best actor winner Josh O’Connor looked positively dashing in a custom Loewe suit by Jonathan Anderson. His suit not only gave a nod to his portrayal of Prince Charles with the linen cravat but also beautifully complimented Emma Corrin’s knock-out number, which, while we’re talking about it, might be our best-dressed of the night.

Lots of Yellow

We’ve already seen some colour courtesy of Leslie Odom Jr’s inspired polo neck, but there was plenty of high-octane palettes amongst this year’s attendees. However, while highlighter greens and pinks might have dappled the red carpet, it was the bright yellows of Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Levy and our own Nicola Coughlan that really put a pep in our step.

Jamie Lee Curtis looked absolutely smoking in a silky Alex Perry number at the LA broadcast. Those power shoulders too – wow.

Dan Levy is a ray of sunshine any time we see him on screen and last night was no different, rocking a buttery Maison Valentino suit with a sequined polo neck and gold shoes to pick up yet another best comedy win for Schitt’s Creek.

Last but certainly not least is Nicola Coughlan, who got dressed up from home and absolutely nailed it with a tulle Molly Goddard number and coral details.

So who was your best-dressed from last night?
