Emma Watson’s New Fashion Instagram Is Worth Following

Emma Watson is an intelligent, undoubtedly talented actress and when she’s not busy being a feminist activist she’s busy calling for equal rights or talking about Imposter Syndrome. Now, she’s taking her love of fashion and combining it with her ethical views, all the while promoting her role as Belle in the anticipated release of the live-action adaptation of Beauty and The Beast.

Watson is an avid social media fan; she used it to start an online book club, and now she’s using it to show her followers the sterling work that goes into creating sustainable red carpet fashion by launching a new Instagram account called The Press Tour.

There are only four images so far, but in each, the actress-turned-activist specifically highlighted the efforts that each luxury brand made to ensuring the outfits were made using materials kind to the environment – and the results are impeccably beautiful.

Bonjour Paris! Coat is from @stellamccartney, the world’s first luxury brand that is committed to producing products that do not use leather, skins, feathers or fur. Instead, Stella has spent years developing ways of using materials such as regenerated cashmere, recycled fabrics, organic cotton and forest-friendly fabrics. Jumper is from @filippa_k, a Swedish brand committed to four Rs: reducing, repairing, reusing and recycling. Tee by @boodywear, a brand that produces basics made with certified organic bamboo, produced using computerised 3D knitting, so no fabric is wasted. Its factories are zero-waste and have a closed loop system to stop any water being wasted. Shoes are @goodguysdontwearleather. The brand doesn’t use any animal products in its collections. In her first post, she wore a Stella McCartney coat and highlighted the designer’s ethical approach. “Coat is from @stellamccartney, the world’s first luxury brand that is committed to producing products that do not use leather, skins, feathers or fur,” she informed. “Instead, Stella has spent years developing ways of using materials such as regenerated cashmere, recycled fabrics, organic cotton and forest-friendly fabrics.”

In another, she highlighted Louis Vuitton’s ethical designing process. “The dress fabric is Newlife recycled polyester, created from used plastic bottles. These are sourced, mechanically processed and spun into yarns in Italy, with a fully traceable supply chain. ”

This isn’t?the first time Watson championed going green in the name of fashion; in 2015, she selected every outfit for her movie Regression press tour based on a designer or company’s commitment to creating quality products made ethically and sustainably.

Sustainable fashion has been the subject of much discussion in the industry for quite some time and it’s starting to gain real momentum, thanks to various designers? and companies efforts to promote it. For example, each awards season the Red Carpet Green Dress Competition is run by designer Suzy Amis Cameron (wife of Titanic director, James Cameron). This is where a designer must submit an outfit made solely using sustainable materials for a celebrity to wear. The iconic Vivienne Westwood is just one of the big names to support this and come Sunday, Scream Queens actress Emma Roberts will be wearing the newest Red Carpet Green Dress creation, especially for the Oscars.
