With Bulmers’ Forbidden Fruit festival kicking off on June 1, we’re looking to five female style icons for festival fashion inspiration…
Bulmers’ Forbidden Fruit festival kicks off this June bank holiday for the eighth year in a row; and while it’s generally about the music, we reckon it’s all about the fashion too.
Festival fashion is unlike anything else. It’s an opportunity to experiment with things you’d never normally wear. Feathers, faux-fur, glitter – you name it; everything (and anything) goes. But, with so many possibilities to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to start.
What prints look best with this? What shoes go best with that? To nail our go-to festival looks down, we’re turning to the Forbidden Fruit musicians – including Peggy Gou and Fehdah – for inspiration.
DJ Peggy Gou is never afraid to play with colour or prints. A quick scroll through her Instagram will inspire you to wear a bright, green suit or a bold, patterned blouse.
The Germany-based artist, who will soon take to the Forbidden Fruit Underground Stage on Sunday, June 2, is eclectic in both fashion and music styles. Her latest track Moment is a vibrant, summery bop – and her outfit choices are no different.
Fehdah is a woman of many talents. While her social media biography lists future-afro soul vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist (to name but a few) – we’d describe her as a source of festival-fashion inspiration too.
Working on the frontline of an emerging Irish RnB and electronic music scene, Fehdah’s music and outfit choices incorporate her African heritage perfectly. Think bright colours, textured fabrics and beautiful head wraps.
First Aid Kit is a two-girl folk band consisting of Swedish sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg. The pair, who write their own country-folk songs, will be taking to the Forbidden Fruit stage on Monday, June 3 – but ahead of that, we’re creeping on their Instagram page for outfit ideas.
Both Klara and Johanna are fans of seventies’ style; think flares and boho dresses with a modern twist.
Honey Dijon is the definition of ‘cool girl’. The Chicago-born DJ and producer loves to rock a leather jacket and sunglasses (staples of any festival-goer’s wardrobe). She’s also incredibly confident in playing around with basics, such as t-shirts (as you can see from the Whitney-tee photo below).
What’s more, Honey is so invested in developing her cool-girl style that she’s recently teamed up with fashion house Comme des Garçons. Their collection, called Honey F–ing Dijon, will feature a range of bags and t-shirts, and it’s expected to launch in autumn of this year.
If you prefer a laid-back approach to fashion but you want to up-your-game for Forbidden Fruit, have a look at Empress Of. The American singer-songwriter can take a hoodie or a t-shirt to another level; often mix-matching athleisure-wear with something more dressy. For example, an Adidas tee with a patterned-pink skirt and trainers.
Whether you’re dressing up or dressing down for this year’s Forbidden Fruit festival, one thing is for certain: the brighter and more colourful you go the better.
That in mind, remember to dress appropriately for the weather. The festival takes place outdoors on the lawned grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, so white trainers might not be the way to go if it’s raining.
