The most anticipated event on the fashion calendar: The 2019 Met Gala is over for another year.

Entitled Camp: Notes on Fashion, the 2019 show will draw on a 1964 Susan Sontag essay that describes camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration,” according to a report by the New York Times. The organisers explained the title is reflective of the cultural shift of camp in society at the moment and that it was important to make it a part of the conversation.

The star-studded Met Gala was co-chaired by some impressive figures including Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, Serena Williams and, of course, Anna Wintour.

It was one of the most varied Met Gala events in recent years; as predicted, some played it safe but others from Lady Gaga (serving no less than four looks in total) to Janelle Monae, Katy Perry, Elle Fanning, Cara Delevingne and Lupita Nyong’o all went that extra mile to fully embrace the theatrics, glamour and fun that camp represents. Saoirse Ronan also pulled off one of her best ever red carpet looks in a colourful, intricate Gucci gown.

Have a look at some of the fashion highlights from the night in our gallery above and check back to IMAGE.ie throughout Tuesday for more of our in-depth Met Gala 2019 coverage.
