I challenge you to name another occasion when Paris is’magically transformed into ancient Greece. Yes, only designer Karl Lagerfeld and his busy army of designers, builders, creators, innovators, sewers and models could pull off such a feat – and in?what seems like only days after Couture Week.

Lucky attendees were taken to a?grandiose “Greek ruin” (in the reliable Grand Palais – a favourite of Lagerfeld’s), where they sat beneath faux-crumbling statues, marble arches and little complexes of?hyacinth’s and rosemary watching?Lagerfeld’s beautiful Chanel army of Grecian Goddesses walk.?It was everything you would expect from a Chanel show and more.

Titled “The Modernity of Antiquity”, the new collection was inspired by Greece. But at its core, the Chanel 2018 Cruise Collection has remained?true to the fundamental boucle design on which the brand has arguably built its entire heritage.

We saw draping shoulder lines, soft, free-flowing and whimsical silhouettes, delicate appliques, gold leaf motifs, and the revival of the gladiator sandal – these?were the real stars of the show.?Available in an assortment of hues, from aqua, blue, and mustard, to yellow, gold, and brown, these knee-high sandals offered a modern, pop-culture approach to the traditional Grecian’sandal.

Lagerfeld’s muses Lily-Rose Depp and Cara?Delevingne missed the show, probably due to Monday night’s Met Gala. Still, we expect to see them on our Instagram feeds soon modelling the cruise collection’s most standout looks. Their absence’didn’t seem to bother Lagerfeld too much, though, as he closed the show side-by-side with 8-year-old model (and angel)?Hudson Kroenig.?View our favourite looks in the gallery above.
