Swimwear shopping online seems unrealistic when swimwear shopping in person is such a mammoth task. It’s impossible to find something that even fits adequately, let alone something without tassels and beads and diamantes hanging out of it. Even if you do find something that sits right, it’s hard to find swimwear that isn’t patterned for a toddler, that snaps back, that won’t wrinkle or sag or fade in the sunlight, and that doesn’t have cups that float to the surface the moment you get in the sea.

This seemingly impractical level of needs for our swimwear is the reason why Hunza G has remained such a popular swimwear brand over the last few years. Even at an expensive price tag, the seersucker swimwear continues to sell out thanks to its innovative fabric. It’s a one-size-fits-most knitted lycra and elastane combination that moulds to your body, no matter if you’re different sizes on the top or the bottom. It’s a thick, flattering material that holds everything together, so you’ll never have to worry about whether you’re still contained in your swimwear or if you’ve been flashing without realizing.

The Hunza G crinkle-stretch fabric has been imitated repeatedly by high street stores but never with the same success, as its the creativity of the fabric that makes it so flattering and stretchy – you can even wear it with a baby bump and post-baby, the material will continue to adapt to your shape. Now, the one-size scrunch-fabric swimwear that not only fits but also flatters has landed to us in Ireland, in Brown Thomas.

Where Hunza G falls down is in sizing. The one-size-fits-most mantra is not currently suitable for plus-size women, with swimsuits and bikinis only fitting in a UK size 6 to size 14 – 16. Creative Director Georgiana Huddart told The Guardian in 2019 that she planned to introduce a version to fit up to a size 20 in 2020, but so far the sizes remain the same.

Hunza, a British designed and produced brand, was launched originally in 1984 and became well-known for the mini dress worn by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. The dress was re-launched 30 years later, but today it’s the swimwear that’s most well known. When Rosie Huntington-Whiteley posted her stone coloured swimsuit while on holiday in Italy last year, the brand’s website crashed due from overdemand and the swimsuit immediately sold out. Other celebrity fans include Emily Ratajkowski, Kim Kardashian, Alexa Chung, Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Suki Waterhouse, Holly Willoughby and Hailey Bieber.
