Is there anything as chic and comfortable as a maxi?

Is there anything as chic and comfortable as a maxi?

I’ve never been lucky enough to have beautifully bronzed legs, so a maxi is and always has been my summer saviour; that and palazzo pants. But even for women who can throw on a pair of shorts without any thought to fake tan or the reality of pale skin and blue veins, there are days when they, too, simply want to wear something that envelops and comforts them, but looks chic and effortless too. A maxi dress delivers all of the above. Here are some of my favourites right now.

This dress has everything I look for in summer; colour, fluidity and coverage. Worn with a pair of tan leather sandals (they will tone down the bright red just a little), it is an easy but chic piece that will carry you through spring and summer.

Red maxi dress, €49.99 at H&M

This is the perfect holiday dress (and hat) from Zara. Gorgeous with flats for day, and elegant with a block-heel at night, this piece is a summer saviour.

Long knit dress, €49.95 at Zara

More of a city chic option than holiday essential, this maxi dress is modern and fresh and looks completely on trend paired with white ankle boots. This is a great option for workwear as the days brighten up.

Striped asymmetric maxi dress, €116 at Warehouse

If any label has reignited our love of print, it’s Rixo London. The stunning hand-printed designs and elegant silhouettes have been a hit with women from the high street to the fashion front row. If you like what you see, pick up a copy of the April issue of IMAGE Magazine to avail of a 20 per cent discount.

Gabriele floral dress, €362 at rixo.co.uk

I like a graphic print, especially in summer when there’s a lot of delicate and ditsy patterns about. This piece has a real point of difference and could easily be layered for a more unique look.

Party print strappy dress, €225 at bimbylola.com
