Orla Kiely Presents Her SS17 Collection At NYFW

Orla Kiely, one of our most lauded fashion exports, is continuing her global expansion. The Irish designer, with her eye-catching patterns coveted all over the world, presented her Spring Summer 17 collection at New York Fashion Week last Thursday in a brand new stand-alone store.

The presentation was held in her new shop at Bleecker Street, following models walking through the town. Inspired by the free spirit of folk singer and activist Mimi Farina, Orla created a collection that is reminiscent of Scandinavian folk festivals and 70’s film festivals.

This Spring Summer 17, the Orla Kiely ready to wear collection has been inspired by the free spirit, singer, songwriter and activist Mimi Farina.

The collection features silk organza dresses, prairie floral embroideries featured on cotton smock dresses, tops with matching little shorts and suede bags and broderie Anglaise ruffled dresses. A nod to the craftsmanship of the time are the Laced Stem leather and suede bags with their contrast coloured hand stitched oversized eyelet embroidery. Orla Kiely also looked to Scandinavian folk art, inspiring the floral prints on silk dresses and blouses.

Many of Orla Kiely’s folk muses played in the coffee shops and nightclubs of the day surrounding the new store on Bleecker Street.

Orla Kiely is “looking forward to inspiring the modern day Gary Winogrand New York ladies” with neat silk organza dresses and Flora Jacquard gathered waist knee length coats and midi dresses. May the casual elegance and effortless beauty of Mimi Farina embody many new Spring Summer 17 Orla Kiely moments to come.
