Under Creative Director Natacha Ramsay-Levi, Chloé’s perennial free spirited ‘femme bohème’ has been given a modern makeover.
For SS19, Ramsay-Levi ensured that the French label’s long-standing boho identity remained intact. It does date back to 1952, after all. The collection — an ode to a woman who is somewhat of a hippie nomad, floating between Marrakech and the Mediterranean — was comprised of silky paisleys, woven scarf belts, chenille-like knits and patchwork scarf prints, along with texture-rich Ikat and Persian rug motifs. Of course, we can’t forget the return of the humble toe ring to the runway either!
“It’s going to be summer, so I said, ‘Let’s face the bohemian inside of Chloé,’” Ramsay-Levi said backstage before the show. “For me, it’s this idea of hippie, people who have reinvented, rebooted a kind of back-to-basics life, and who have a sensuality, a sense of nature and modernism… It’s taking instincts from simple life, prosaic things, and trying to make them fashion.”
Prosaic was one thing that this collection most certainly was not. Luckily, for fans of the brand, the aesthetic has trickled down into the high street already — priming you to replicate the runway. Keep your money for your global travels — here’s how to unleash your inner luxe jet setter.
