I have to admit that since I saw Victoria Beckham wearing white shoes last year with a gorgeous red shirt and camel midi dress, I’ve been in two minds about buying a pair. Although white seemed like the most unexpected neutral to pair with such earthy autumnal hues, Beckham made it work. But given that I live in Dublin where it rains a lot, coupled with the fact that I’m a pragmatic shopper, the idea of white shoes has always felt like an absolute folly.
But after three days at London Fashion Week, it would appear that they’re the only shoes to wear right now. It’s the single biggest trend I’ve noticed since arriving here. Women are wearing white shoes with everything, from sequinned trousers and two-piece suits to jogging pants and pinafore dresses. So if trends matter to you, this is one fashion bandwagon you need to jump on now. Here are four of the best pairs in stores now.
The gathered detailing gives these shoes a point of difference, while the low heel makes them a wearable choice for everyday. Pair with a cropped pant to show off the gathered rim.
Leather gathered shoes, €59.95 at Zara
I love the texture that this snakeskin print brings to these shoe boots. At this kind of price point, you can take a chance and experiment with white shoes.
Snakeskin-effect boots, €39.99 at H&M
These are so elegant and on-trend right now. The backless design, shade of white and quirky belt detailing makes them a really interesting choice. Wear with culottes for a languid but chic look.
Nappa leather shoes, €115 at uterque.com
Slightly architectural in shape and with a tactile textured leather, these mules are a modern choice and make a strong style statement. I love the visible black rim, which adds punctuation.
Textured leather mules, Mercedes Castillo, €315 at net-a-porter.com
