From nomadic cool to utility chic and timeless minimalism, the Brown Thomas SS19 fashion show gave a strong steer on the new season. This summer, you’ll be torn between boyish boiler suits, hippie scarf prints and restrained tailoring. For the more flamboyant among you there are plenty of dramatic pieces in notice-me prints from Richard Quinn and Dolce & Gabbana.

Some of my favourite looks were from Dries Van Noten, a brand that always manages to make the unexpected look utterly modern and sophisticated.
In terms of trends, utility wear was the one that appealed to me most. It’s got a very chic, street style vibe to it, but with a comfortable, effortless-looking appeal. Isabel Marant did it beautifully, imbuing it with the French brand’s signature insouciance.

Every woman wants a couple of dreamy dresses for summer, and these were provided by Zimmermann. The Australian brand delights each season in delivering the most exquisitely pretty dresses, and this divine pink floral, handkerchief-hem haterneck was an absolute showstopper.

Sharp tailoring had a strong presence at the show too in the form of sixties’ style coats and pared-back two pieces, but these were softened for summer by Victoria Beckham, Erdem, Marni and Maticevski with hints of lace, structured ruffles and a wildflower palette. Just the thing when you want to look businesslike but not uptight.
