Dress to impress: 20 timeless pieces to wear to a job interview

Job interviews can be a nerve-racking experience, but a good outfit can ease the nerves. Here are 15 of the best pieces to wear to a job interview

I have a specific interview dress.

It has been worn for every interview and first-day-at-the-office I have experienced.

Instantaneously, it makes me feel confident, relaxed and stylish. These three emotions combine to make me feel invincible. The supposed nerves are a figment of my imagination.

This is how good workwear should make you feel.

Feeling uncomfortable and rigid will show on your face and ultimately materialise in your words and thoughts. It may seem like workwear is all black and no colour. And while sticking to base colours is a smart choice, it doesn’t mean you can’t introduce a pop of light every once in a while.

By doing this you show personality and a willingness to roam from the norm.

Invest

The same goes for shapes. Structured pieces can help you feel powerful but a relaxed skirt or dress will produce a similar feeling.

Invest in pieces you know will last beyond the interview stage. Workwear is something you wear five days a week so buying pieces of higher quality is always a good choice.

Almost all high-street and online retailers offer a workwear range with ASOS and Mango particularly thriving. However, our favourite is The Outnet.

The retailer offers discounts on a wide range of designer names and has an extensive workwear themed collection. Our top pick is the Yellow Abbot pleated midi skirt. It’s green and yellow checked print would look superb when worn with a black light knit and blazer – the perfect outfit to ace an interview.
