It’s transitional style season. Here’s the footwear that will carry you through to summer

It’s transitional style season. Here’s the footwear that will carry you through to summer

Transitional style… I slightly hate that phrase because what it means is that the weather is neither one thing or the other. The sun is out, but its rays aren’t warming our bones one bit. The days are longer and the evenings brighter, but the breeze will still cut through you as sharply as it did on January 1.

Yet, head-to-toe black feels so weighty and out-of-kilter with brighter skies and blooming daffs. We want to look and feel fresher without freezing our you-know-whats off. When I’m deciding what to wear I always start with footwear, and similarly I find that switching black boots to something a little more spring-like can rejuvenate an entire outfit. Here’s where to begin your transitional dressing journey…

White boots

They’re the easiest way to update your outfit for February and March. Even jeans and a black sweater feels so much more “right” for now when worn with white ankle boots.

Trainers

The trick to great transitional style is softening your look. Introduce trainers to your day-to-day uniform (if you work in the corporate world, perhaps they’re best left for weekend wear). These gorgeous coloured trainers from Bimba Y Lola look so fresh and “new” and will instantly add a lift to a midi skirt and jacket combination.

Tan suede boots

Black boots can seem a little cold and harsh at this time of year, so introducing texture such as suede to your footwear softens even the most austere of outfits, such as this black skirt and sweater combination. I always have a pair of tan boots in my transitional wardrobe arsenal as they have a hit of bohemian chic about them which always hints at summer.
