The fashion world mourns the closure of one of its most celebrated labels by designer Zac Posen.  It was announced Friday that the designer and red-carpet go-to for celebrities and models around the globe had shuttered his namesake label. According to Vogue, The House of Z, Posen’s company had been in the midst of a sale process which fell through. Posen said he had no option but to close his doors due to difficult climates in the industry.

According to a release, the House of Z, “determined to cease business operations and carry out an orderly disposition of its assets.

“The Board of Managers made this difficult decision following a comprehensive strategic and financial review of the businesses… The Board of Managers is disappointed with this outcome but can no longer continue operations. Around 60 staff will lose their jobs.

“I’ve been personally trying to find the right partner for some time,” Posen continued, according to Vogue. “But time ran out, and the difficult climate out there… it’s not an easy time in our industry.”

 “I’m very sad”

“It’s been 20 years of love, I’m very sad,” he said. “But I’ve had the great fortune to express myself creatively, and to have made some incredible work with unbelievably passionate people. The community of people who have come through House of Z and are currently here—it’s a powerful force.”

Posen was a true artistic force; creating collections and clothing for women that were powerful expressions of femininity – and made for every woman, no matter shape or skin tone.

“I need to reflect and regroup,” Posen said, “and also to look at the world we’re living in and figure what the next move is, where I can share my creativity and my love, and build another community.”

The red carpet will be a dull place without his creativity and sublime creations.

We’ve compiled a small selection of some of his most memorable designers in our gallery above.
