Forget the micro mini, this season it’s all about the denim maxi skirt

Forget the micro mini, this season it’s all about the denim maxi skirt

Last year, it was the micro mini skirt that ruled catwalks around the world. This year, it’s all about the denim maxi skirt.

Beloved by celebrities, stylists and all of Instagram’s most fashionable people, the denim maxi has replaced other above-the-knee versions as The Skirt of the summer.

No less sexy than Miu Miu’s micro mini, but definitely more wearable, we’ve seen them in many iterations so far this year – from distressed to vintage to classic blue. As easily styled as your favourite pair of jeans, streetstylers have been favouring floor-length hemlines but with the Irish weather to contend with, that might necessarily be the most logical choice round these parts (I’ll leave that up to you but the ombre effect is only cool when it’s not rain induced).

A quick Google search returned hundreds of options with the most favoured style being the split hem for a cheeky flash of skin. Pair with a plain white tee, Birkenstock clogs once temperatures rise or, for double denim lovers, a matching cropped jacket à la stylist Emili Sindlev.
