Judy Wong: A week in my wardrobe

Judy Wong: A week in my wardrobe

by Judy Wong
18th Jun 2023

A makeup artist and newly qualified life coach, Judy Wong exudes positivity and joy and her fashion sense is very much an extension of her sunny personality. Here she shares a week inside her wonderfully colourful wardrobe.

MONDAY

I am usually on the go a lot, and today is no exception. I’m heading to the train station to do a shoot. When I am choosing my outfit for work, I am always practical, fun and quirky when styling myself. I accessorise a lot, especially with earrings – which you will see this week! Earrings are my power suit accessory and I get such good energy buying from Irish jewellery designers. Today I am wearing vintage Nikes that I bought in Berlin. I love vintage and finding sustainable ways to repurpose fashion, and I love pieces that last the test of time too. My grey leather jacket from All Saints is a staple jacket that goes well with all my outfits. My jeans are from Zara – the stretch fabric is made for comfort and movement. I love pieces to fit me when I go from a size 12 to a size 14 and then yo-yo back to a size 12. Size isn’t important to me… styling is! I layered the blue gilet from Arabella Girl’s pop-up shop in Sandymount with my Alexander McQueen vintage t-shirt, bought in BT like 20 years ago! Duil Ireland earrings are light and fun and durable.

TUESDAY

When I have days off, I often go visit my sister and walk the dogs with her. I need family time to help me unwind.  My sister Amanda and I hang out a lot because her dogs require walks and I love walking and catching up with her over a coffee. She’s super stylish and is so much fun to hang out with. Today I am wearing a baggy, oversized, lavender Penneys jumper. It only cost €2 so was an absolute bargain. I live in it! Here I’ve paired it with a birthday gift beanie from Dunnes Stores. I love beanies, especially this one. Bright pink and the logo ‘Love’ is what I am all about! Zara jeans are worn a lot this week. These black leather star-studded boots were bought in Arnotts in 2020 as a gift for me and I live in them all the time. Comfort is part of my aesthetic always. Melissa Curry’s jewellery collection is full of pops of colour to grab your attention… obsessed!

WEDNESDAY

Looks worn by me have to have an energy about them. I love to buy vintage and I’m inspired by the likes of Nicole Richie and Beyoncé and Elton John. Before I put anything on, I check my energy and who my clients are, and what my agenda is for the day. Today, I have a life-coaching one-to-one session with a client. I also have admin and invoicing to catch up on. I LOVE French-inspired simplicity in makeup, hair and styling. I feel more feminine and chic when I wear my Rotate Birger Christensen Faux leather pencil skirt in this amazing croc print. As a curvy human, I love fitted and snug pieces that fit my shape – this skirt is the best. I also wore my Zara wrap black shirt with bell sleeve details and of course, my Hermès scarf, a 40th birthday gift from my friends. It has little shamrock detailing on it and is a gorgeous silk scarf with a red pop of colour. I love a beret too, it helps to keep that hair framed! My suede slouchy black boots are from Kurt Geiger and the Orchid drop earrings are another pair from Duil Ireland to keep my whole look fresh and modern.

THURSDAY

I am minding my sister’s dogs today. I have a day off so I’m just checking in with friends on my phone. Hanging out and lounging around the house means wearing really easy outfits. I love these harem pants, bought 12 years ago in H&M in Vancouver. I have a lot of great pieces that work well and travel well with me. Who doesn’t love a little sequin detailing too!? A Monki jumper that says ‘MY OWN BOSS’, allows me to feel like I have a power mantra. It is sunny today so I’m wearing my wide-fitted zebra print sandals from M&S. I’m just chilling out and relaxing, enjoying the good weather!

FRIDAY

I teach a wellness in skincare and makeup class online and in various schools around Dublin and sometimes, my job brings me into corporate environments to give makeup workshops. Today I am showing students how to work with international faces and features. My sister is a great model for showcasing diverse looks and creating content. I am wearing my favourite silk vintage peach kimono-style dress that I bought in my friend’s store in Sandymount, The Cobbler’s Wardrobe. You can find all kinds of pre-loved pieces there and the condition/quality is exceptional. This kimono came from NYC,  I feel very Sex in the City wearing it. My boots are vintage boots and a turquoise necklace gives this look some texture and quirk. Duil Ireland earrings on my ears again! I love the design with the pink flowers and gold finishings.

SATURDAY

I’m excited today! There is a family wedding to go to and I am doing everyone’s makeup and also attending the wedding. This often happens, but I am an organised freak! EVERYONE who knows me in the industry, knows that I need to know my timings for the day and to help myself, I visualise the flow of the day. I am wearing a beautiful Zara amber gold fitted dress with ruching on one side of the dress to flatter my tummy. It is asymmetrical on the bottom part of the dress. The perfect pre-loved purple Mongolian fur jacket finishes the look. I have sewn in small snaps to lift up the corner of the jacket to help with the proportions of my body. This particular fur can be overwhelming so shortening the jacket helps me show off my body length but also makes the piece look more expensively tailored. I am short, so a pair of hot pink platform-heeled sandals that are over 12 years old (gifted to me by my friend Sarah Killen) are a must. These are very well-loved platforms – they’re so comfortable and easy to walk in despite the height.  I pulled my hair back and am wearing my 40th birthday gift to myself – earrings with turquoise fringing, they definitely have an art deco vibe to them. I bought them in The Collective on Drury Street. Designer Christina Goldston is so beautiful and her jewellery aesthetic is so luxurious.

SUNDAY

Today, I’m heading out for brunch with my friends and then have a date afterwards. I haven’t seen my friends in so long so I love wearing floaty dresses and feeling feminine. I want an outfit that I can wear to a date that is girlie and cute too. My River Island black and red polka dot dress is so practical and it has lots of beautiful details near the neckline and shoulders. This fringed cardigan from Zara is the cutest and I wear it religiously – it’s fun and embodies looks more expensive than it is. I paired this look with my M&S sandals so I know that I can look good but still feel comfortable all day long. I love my earrings, which are from Lorraine Browne Hair’s bridal earring collection.
