Founder of Never Fully Dressed, Lucy Aylen is at the core of the website’s designs, shapes and styling. Drawn to colour and bright patterns, her outfits are a joyous mixture of eclectic pieces and more classic ones too. Here she shares a week in her wardrobe.
MONDAY
Monday is an office day for me, I am up from 5:30am (ish) with the kids beforehand so a planned outfit (and coffee) is needed. I always layer a mixture of items in my wardrobe, Never Fully Dressed trial samples and of course some newness. I try to stick to one colour palette and take it from there. Loving my new Dr Marten shoes I bought before Christmas, I know I will live in these from now on.
TUESDAY
Tuesday is shoot day – my fave day to be creative with my styling. I style the outfits with the team the day before so once we are on set it is go, go, go! Our styles are so fun and joyous, we love making them work for everyone in different ways. Multi-way styling is so important to us and that’s what I love showing through our content most. Our tattoo cardigan was a best seller this month and a classic staple for me to take me through many different seasons. It’s constant outfit changes for me, so ensuring I have the right undies on is key on a day like today.
WEDNESDAY
I’m in Dubai for a few days to shoot the Lucy x NFD collection. Feeling very grateful! Travelling and being adventurous when shooting is key for us to deliver the creativity of our prints and the happiness our clothes bring. I shot one of my new pieces, the multi-patchwork shirt which includes iconic NFD prints from over the years – it’s a true step back in time. When styled with classic jeans and Brother Vellies heels, a statement NFD hat and bag, it’s a relaxed look with the loose jeans and oversized shirt, yet still feminine with the printed statement heels.
THURSDAY
Today is our event day in Dubai where we get to meet some fabulous women showcasing our brand here in true NFD style. I am wearing a dress sample which will be launched later this year. It’s a classic style of ours with a vibrant floral print, paired with our amazing suede cowboy boots – they are an all-time favourite of mine, so versatile. Not forgetting accessories either, with my blue tint sunglasses for a bit of added fun. I love being able to travel and feel so grateful for the customers we have all over the world, seeing women of all ages, shapes and sizes feel amazing in how they look in our clothes is all we could ever wish to achieve.
FRIDAY
It’s back to London and straight to a street-style shoot. Today I am channelling my inner Matrix chic, Bobby Brown with Death Becomes Her vibes. All black accessories paired with vintage Versace shoes, an NFD sample skirt and shirt. I always like to explore my own style when creating looks both for myself and our brand. How you dress impacts how you feel, so get up, get dressed and feel great for the day ahead!
SATURDAY
Saturday allows for a little downtime and a hotel stay in London. Even though the weekends are slower for me I still like to get up and dressed for the day whatever I am doing. For today’s outfit, I styled one of our new bodies (underwear as outerwear) with low-rise jeans and our classic Fedora trim hat. For date night, I’d layer this look with an oversized blazer or one of my husband’s shirts on top. For Sunday strolls, I’d wear it under a big knit.
SUNDAY
Sunday is my rest day, a day with my family getting some fresh air, fresh flowers and a good lunch. We usually drive to East London and meet my sister who recently moved there for a stroll down Columbia Road flower market followed by a stop off at the pub. Matching with my mini-me just got even better with the Lucy x NFD collection, bringing our hero prints to life across 2 beautiful patchwork dresses. I styled this look with a silver Gucci bag, NFD suede cowboy boots (told you they’re my favourite!) and a silver sample jacket. Forrest is wearing pink flares, gold Dr Martens and of course, a beret.
