Barbiecore has taken over as the latest fashion aesthetic du jour with all the who’s who of Hollywood embracing the ‘think pink’ mentality. A trend inspired by, and aligning with, Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie, Barbiecore can only be described as unapologetically feminine – or at least stereotypically so.
A heady mix of Elle Woods meets Mean Girls (on Wednesdays we wear…), the entire concept centres on one very specific shade of hot pink and all the top luxury designers have been getting on board – including, Valentino, who turned Rome’s Spanish Steps technicolour with their AW22 couture spectacular in August last year.

Hot pink also prevailed at the 2021 Jacquemus show, and it was more than just the boys that were winking as it’s all we’ve been able to think about since. Pairing an array of bright hues together to form the perfect colour-block wardrobe, both Kendall Jenner and fellow it-girl Bella Hadid could be seen strutting their stuff down the runway in our new favourite colour.
One of the first runway shows to go ahead after several forced lockdowns around the world, the French designer staged his show in a film studio on the outskirts of Paris – opting for a much more low-key setting to that of his iconic 2019 show which took place in the midst of a giant lavender field in Provence.
Saying that he wanted to focus on “the clothes, the silhouettes, the colours, the fabrics, the details and the energy of the models”, he certainly managed to achieve that and the La Montagne collection was a combination of laidback athleisure and fancier French couture.
