Sarah and Karl, who first met while working as doctors in a Dublin hospital, celebrated their love with a stunning festive wedding in Co Wicklow. Joined by their baby daughter, the couple described the day as 'magical' from 'start to finish.'
THE COUPLE
Sarah Lally and Karl Kavanagh, both doctors.
THEY LIVE
in Dublin.
THE VENUE
Powerscourt Hotel in Co Wicklow
PHOTOGRAPHER
Gillian Higgins Photography captured our day. Gillian photographed a few of my friends’ weddings and I loved her style so I was delighted when she was available for our date too.
THEY MET
We met at work in a Dublin hospital.
THE PROPOSAL
We got engaged in beautiful Florence in June 2022 at the end of a week’s holiday travelling around Italy.
THE DRESS & THE SUIT
My first dress was Alexandra Grecco, from The Suite in Rathmines and my second was from Helen Cody. Meanwhile, Karl’s tuxedo was from Louis Copeland.
THE CEREMONY
We got married in St Joseph’s Church, Glasthule which is Karl’s parish. Fr Hugh Gormley said the mass. He was witty and relaxed and set the tone for the day ahead.
THE RECEPTION
The reception took place in the truly stunning Powerscourt Hotel, Co Wicklow. It was incredible. We were so grateful to the hotel manager Eamonn Casey who worked with us throughout and made sure everything was perfect on the day!
THE ENTERTAINMENT
For our church and drinks reception, we had musician and singer Katherine Gavin who is from Co Galway. Katherine is multi-talented and there isn’t anything that she can’t play. She was such a great help when it came to choosing our music for the church. She was accompanied by guitarist, Mike Walsh in the church, who was equally as wonderful.
For our after-dinner entertainment, we had Spring Break band. They played at Karl’s brother’s wedding one year earlier and they created a really fun and energetic atmosphere so we were delighted to book them for our day too.
THE DECOR
Aoife Hodgins, wedding planner with Blue Blossom Creative, helped bring our vision to life for the day. We got married in December so we wanted it to feel like a magical winter wonderland, and she really made this happen. She understood the vision from the beginning and her creativity helped add those extra special touches. Alongside the amazing staff from Powerscourt Hotel, no detail went unnoticed. The décor was either supplied by the hotel or sourced by Aoife and hired for the day.
Fernwood Floral Studio did our flowers. They were incredible and even more beautiful than I could have imagined. I knew I wanted to keep the flowers neutral and Brigid created gorgeous arrangements using seasonal flowers and greenery in classic tones of white and green with gold accents.
Then Paper Love produced our invitations and the stationery for the wedding day itself and Day Two also. Their attention to detail was amazing and all of the stationary was impeccable.
THEIR TOP TIPS
For us, it was getting organised as early as possible. Seeing as we were expecting a baby girl seven months before our wedding, we knew we would be a little bit preoccupied in the run-up to the day. Hiring our wedding planner, Aoife, was a massive help. She was with us every step of the way, from suggesting and liaising with suppliers and styling the venue to managing the day itself.
THEY WISH THEY HAD
Stressed less ahead of the day. Everything came together in the end and it was even better than we had imagined.
THEIR BEST MOMENTS
The whole day from start to finish was magical!
