Book your mum in for some R&R as a thank you for all she does.
Ask your lovely mum what she would like for Mother’s Day and, if she’s anything like my own mother, she’ll most likely shake her head and tell you she wants for nothing… which might be true but doesn’t really help you when you’re stuck for gift ideas.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, experiences are always a good option – particularly ones centred on wellness and relaxation as they’re not often things we splash out on for ourselves. We all know the importance of self-care, but it can be hard to prioritise “me time” with a to-do list the length of your arm.
The importance of taking a moment for yourself cannot be ignored though and if there’s anyone in need of a break, it’s definitely the busy mums out there! With that in mind, we’ve rounded up some of the best places around Ireland to get a facial so you can book your mam (and maybe yourself too!) in for a pamper this Mother’s Day.
The Johnstown Estate
The first spa in Ireland to use Medik8 products, the Platinum Facial is the Johnstown Estate’s signature facial and is every bit as comprehensive as it sounds. A true treatment innovation, it delivers immediate, rejuvenating results and the skin is visibly plumped and firmed to reveal a more youthful and radiant complexion. I’ve personally tried this facial so can attest to how good it is – not only was it super relaxing, but my skin was positively glowing afterwards. The treatment costs €135 and lasts 60 minutes with a bonus 90 minutes of thermal suite access. You can find more info here.
Burgundy Beauty
According to our very own director of events and branded partnerships, Ciara Cosgrove, Burgundy Beauty is simply amazing… so you have it on good authority that this place is the real deal. Specialists in advanced skincare, they really know what they’re doing. Their new and improved hydro treatment is a medical-grade resurfacing treatment using the latest technology and gentle water abrasion to resurface your skin. Every treatment is bespoke to each individual client too, meaning that they can tailor it to your mum’s skin and whatever it is she wants to focus on. Their Hydradermabrasion Glow treatment – a first in Ireland – costs €130. More info and booking details can be found here.
The Aesthetic Clinic
As a qualified CIBTAC Esthetician with over 20 years of experience, Sherna Malone knows that there’s no one size fits all solution when it comes to skincare which is why all of her treatments are highly customised to each client. Combining traditional and advanced aesthetic techniques, there are a few different options to choose from – including The Proactive facial designed to improve your complexion, rejuvenate, and revitalize the skin. This treatment may include a gentle peel/skin resurfacing treatment, vitamin skin infusion, High Frequency, Radio Frequency, Dermalux LED Light Therapy, Byonik Pulse Triggered Laser, or Oxygen Dome Therapy. The Proactive Facial costs €160 for 60 minutes and you can find out more details here.
The Shelbourne
For the ultimate in luxury, look no further than The Shelbourne who use an exclusive selection of premium Swiss-made skincare from Swissline in their treatments. Founded in Switzerland over 30 years ago, Swissline is one of the very few brands that can trace its origins back to cellular therapy. The Le Grand Soin Au Collagene Pur facial focuses on restorative and deeply nurturing therapy designed to leave your skin (and spirits) lifted. This 90-minute treatment is fortified with innovative skin-building ingredients, including pure collagen, peptide technology, pure silk and plant-based growth factors. This particular treatment lasts for 90 minutes and costs €265. You can find more information here.
Skin Future
Located up in Co Down, Skin Future focuses on more of a holistic approach. There, facialist and nutritional therapist Áine Lavery infuses a prescriptive blend of highly active ingredients deep into the skin where the damage is actually occurring, thus working on a cellular level to create optimum healthy skin. Feeding and nourishing the dermis with the ingredients your skin needs is a true anti ageing strategy and focusing on infusion rather than harsh exfoliation is the cornerstone of her approach to skin. Each facial can be customised to target concerns such as ageing, scarring, dryness, dehydration, redness, reactive/sensitivity, acne and pigmentation to name but a few. Treatments start at approximately €135 and you can find out more information here.
Facial Rejuve
Designed to resurface the skin, treat problematic areas, reduce fine lines and encourage cellular renewal, iS Clinical’s Fire & Ice Facial bridges the gap between a mild facial and an invasive peel. A luxury, clinically-proven line of products comprising exceptional, long-term, anti-ageing and skin-optimisation formulations, this treatment uses two professional masques combined with carefully selected products to optimise results. Performed in two steps, the first masque is the ‘Fire’ portion of the treatment and consists of a five-minute Intensive Resurfacing Masque clinically formulated with key ingredients to address skin health, including glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, malic acid, vitamin B3, retinol and potent antioxidants. The ‘Ice’ portion is a rejuvenating, cool, soothing and intensively hydrating masque, reaping the repairing benefits of hyaluronic acid, Japanese green tea extracts, aloe vera gel, liquorice extracts, rosemary extracts and grape seed extracts. Sounds heavenly. The Fire & Ice facial costs €150 and you can find out more info here.
