From her does-it-all coat, to her wear-everywhere handbag, here are Becca Boyce’s favourite fashion finds.
Becca Boyce is an up-and-coming fashion stylist based between London and Dublin. Her work is eccentric and surrealist with a great passion for the unconventional. Becca has assisted renowned stylists all over Europe on global campaigns and has also personally styled editorials for a wealth of magazines, such as Kaltblut & Hunter Magazine.
Here, we get an exclusive glimpse into her enviable wardrobe.
How would you describe your personal style?
Eccentric and extravagant.
I have always had a flair for dramatics and really like to stand out so I express this through my style. I love vintage shopping and always find one-of-a-kind pieces which really give a lot of range to my style. The most important aspect of my wardrobe is my accessories collection. In my opinion, an outfit is never complete without accessories.
The go-to shoe/trainers
It is rare to see me without heels or at the very least, shoes with a platform. My go-to shoes at the moment are a pair of vintage Dior kitten heels which I got from Depop and my knee-high leather boots which I got from Massimo Dutti. Wearing comfortable shoes when working is the first rule in the stylist handbook as you spend so much time on your feet so I have definitely had to update my shoe collection to some more sensible options. In a perfect world, I would wear heels all the time.
The does-it-all coat
When I was 18, I went into my mum’s wardrobe and stole the fur coat that she had since her early 20s. This ignited my love affair with fur coats and led to over 10 in my collection – all secondhand/vintage of course. I find wearing these pieces to be the best way of bringing flair to my winter outfits. The harsh weather in Ireland can make it hard to dress how I’d like in the winter and wearing fur coats is a way for me to serve looks while still being warm. In the warmer months, my go-to coat is my vintage leather trench coat or a blazer of some kind.
The perfect jeans
Levi 501s are always a reliable choice with denim, however, my dream jean is these Y2K-inspired Glen Martins for Diesel Bootcut Flare Jeans from the SS23 runway. If there’s one thing Diesel knows how to do, it’s denim.
The must-have knitwear
There is a vintage shop on Clarendon Street called “A Store Is Born” that has the best selection of knitwear and vintage cashmere pieces. It only opens on a Saturday but is a gem for beautiful vintage clothing and is my go-to for knitwear. Other than vintage, Uniqlo have an amazing selection of affordable cashmere and cotton knitwear.
The everyday jewellery
As I mentioned above, I love to accessorise, so jewellery is very important. I am a gold jewellery girl implicitly and my everyday pieces consist of stacking vintage rings, a cross pendant I got in Paris and a small pair of hoop earrings I got from a sample sale. I stray from designer jewellery as it is usually costume so try to shop independent brands that use quality material. My suggestions for this would be @innejewellery and @alexandra_rae_jewellery.
The wear-everywhere handbag
I love, love, love handbags. You will usually find me carrying two at one time. For the last year, my Black Telfar Shopping Tote in the medium size has not left my arms. It is the perfect work bag because it fits my laptop, whatever magazine I am carrying and my everyday essentials. I use a vintage Gucci pochette as a purse every day which I got from Designer Exchange in 2020. I would be lost without both of these bags.
The Sunday cosy casual look
My style vocabulary excludes the word casual. If I am staying in I will usually wear a pair of silk pyjamas. Otherwise, no matter if it is a quick trip to the shop or an important event, I am usually dressed up.
The ultimate pyjamas
Definitely any pair of silk/satin pyjamas. My favourites are from Dunnes, Victoria’s Secret or The White Company. They are the perfect pyjama-lounge wear combination.
The party look essential
I am a party girl at heart so I have spent years perfecting my nighttime wardrobe. There is one piece in particular that I would consider my staple and that is a pair of red leather trousers. Last summer I got a pair of low-rise, flared, red leather pants from Nine Crows in temple bar and they are without a doubt my most complimented piece. The first time I wore them, a girl ran off the bus before her stop to tell me how much she loved them. Every time I go on a trip I bring these trousers with me and they always seem to make an appearance as a party piece.
The most treasured piece
I hold all my clothing near and dear to my heart but my most prized possession is my limited edition Galliano for Dior Saddle Bag. I got it once again from Designer Exchange, they are the best for vintage and preloved designer bags. The bag features the koi fish print and is from 2002 with only 1,000 made in the world. This bag is my pride and joy. Although I cherish it, I am never afraid to wear it. I think if you buy an expensive bag or accessory you should wear it and not keep it locked away only for special occasions.
The wishlist item
My wishlist is more of a wish book at this point however, there is one item in particular that I feel will be my next big purchase, which is a Fendi baguette. The dream style is a colourful vintage pony hair baguette. These pieces usually go very quickly on the resale market so it will probably be a future purchase.
The vintage shop to know
If I died and went to Heaven, it would be at Pretty Box, a vintage store in Paris. It is where all the celebrities shop when they are over for fashion week and I happened to stumble across it with my friend when I was over for SS23 fashion week. I tried on an archival JPG leather trench coat that was around €5,000 and I genuinely considered moving into the store just so I wouldn’t have to take it off. I would definitely add it to your must-see list for all fashion aficionados when visiting Paris.
Closer to home, my go-to vintage shops in Dublin would be Loot, Collected Treasure and Betty Bo Jangles.
Who to follow for style on social media
I get most of my inspiration for style outside of social media but I think my favourite account to follow is @tarakumardj, I think her style is so unique and refreshing. It definitely gets me inspired to create more.
The beauty essentials / self-care ritual
My mum is a beauty therapist, so for as long as I can remember, she has drilled the importance of good skincare into me. It does change from time to time but at the moment I am using a Kiehl’s cleanser, a Retin A cream and the Innisfree Green Tea moisturiser. Despite what my personal style may say, I definitely believe less is more when it comes to skincare. I use the Dr Jart Ceramidin Sheet Mask once a week and it is my holy grail. It leaves my skin so glowy and refreshed, I love it. For a self-care ritual, I find going to a coffee shop with a book or magazine I am reading once a week to be the most rejuvenating experience.
