A woman whose presence on the Irish style scene has been felt for over a decade now, Corina Gaffey is a fashion journalist and stylist with quite the eye for detail. Here, we get an exclusive glimpse into her enviable wardrobe.
Ever changing! I’ve finally found my style groove, and I swing between full-on prints and patterns and, then, the next day, super clean lines. Comfort and mood dictate my everyday wardrobe.
A pointed/ballet flat is consistently my go-to if I want to give my look a little polish. From high-street to high-end, I always gravitate towards that style and shape. I snapped up a pair of metallic silver Prada last season in the sale, and I also bought an embellished black pair from Zara a few weeks ago, so my pointed flat wardrobe is constantly expanding! If I’m spending a day prepping for a shoot, I’ll always wear runners, as I can rack up at least 20,000 steps running around – I’ve recently jumped on the Adidas Samba bandwagon, and they are a great trainer for wearing with jeans or tailored trousers.
I don’t know if I could limit it to one! But for versatility, a trench will always be in rotation in my wardrobe – particularly a trench in classic beige. It just can be thrown over everything. Next on my list would be a statement coat, I have many. From leopard to metallic, I feel much more pulled together when I have a standout topper, even if it’s just a simple t-shirt and jeans.
I’m still hunting for my holy grain jean like most people. But I’m enjoying the much more relaxed, straight-leg styles and can’t see myself rushing back to skinnies. I’ve just bought a pair of wide-leg white jeans from Arket, and I’ve two pairs of Gavin jeans from Anine Bing – I love the crop, straight leg, and frayed ends.
You can’t beat the simplest crew neck knit to slip under a blazer or wear with jeans. But I do love Khaite knitwear, particularly their sculpted cardigans, which are a bit boujee for me; instead, I look to Nanuskha, Sezane, & Other Stories, and The White Company for Khaite vibes. I recently got an oatmeal cardigan from The White Company, and I know I’ll live in it all spring. When you’re blessed in the chest, a v-neck cardigan is a great option, and I usually wear it layered with necklaces to elevate it.
Earrings. No matter what I wear, I always stack my ears with my Timeless Pearly hoop and pearl earrings, or if I want something a little more statement, my Inner Island pearl drops. Necklaces, I layer, too; I love Sorcha O’R, One Dame Lane, Ecru Studios, and Gabsluk.
I’m a crossbody gal, usually just because I need my hands free when pulling clothing for shoots, so they are a great everyday bag. I recently invested in a tote bag from Tory Burch, Kildare Village and a quilted softie from Mulberry, which is more of a shoulder bag, so I’m moving away from just the hands-free handbag!
I don’t have much loungewear, but I have a black tailored tracksuit from Sweaty Betty that would be my go-to if I want to be cosy. It’s good to wear it with trainers or make it a little more polished with a chunky loafer.
Sleeper adorned in feathers for lounging, and you can’t beat a pair of Penneys pjs!
When it comes to partywear, I like to keep one part casual, whether it’s a t-shirt with metallic trousers, a tank with a sequin skirt, or flats with an evening dress; I like to disrupt and make sure I don’t look overdone.
My wedding shoes; I still wear them, they are Miu Miu, and I bought them before I even knew what my dress was like. They are black, pointed with a silver mirrored heel, people thought I was mad buying black wedding shoes, but my dress covered them, and they were so comfortable, plus they are so much more versatile, and I still wear them eight years later!
I’m lusting after Simone Rocha’s metallic gold ballet flats from her Autumn Winter collection.
Vicente Ganesha in Ibiza, it’s a treasure trove of some of the most amazing vintage, really authentic, and it’s a regular haunt of Kate Moss, so if it’s good enough for Ms. Moss…
Some of my favourites are @nlmarilyn, @lisa.aiken, @vanessaroseblair, @monkih, @sylviemus_ and @juliesfi .
I’m really into underpainting thanks to Mary Phillips, so contouring and concealing before make-up. I love Westman Atelier contour and highlight sticks, Nars concealer, and Charlotte Tilbury Flawless filter. I also recently stocked up on Glossier Boy Brow and Balmdotcom.
