In an unexpected twist, Limerick-hailed Greg O’Shea and his partner Amber Gill were surprisingly crowned the winners of Love Island 2019.
We love an underdog. Or should we say, underdogs? The 24-year-old Shannon rugby star proved the winner of the show with partner, model and beautician Amber Gill, and the pair seemed genuinely surprised and thrilled on Monday night taking the public vote.

It’s a surprising end to the series – as Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague had been the bookies’ favourites to win for several weeks.
Tommy and Molly-Mae finished in second place, Ovie and India third, and Curtis and Maura fourth.
The inimitable Maura Higgins of County Longford is one of our favourite women here at IMAGE, but unfortunately, the general dislike for her other half Curtis Pritchard, a narcissist who has a severely problematic view of how to treat women, meant she was never going to win as part of a twosome. Had she been solo, we’ve no doubt she would have taken the crown.
Maura, you deserve – and can do – better. Seriously.
Anyhow, Corbally native O’Shea, a late-comer to the island (he didn’t join the show until last month) and his partner Gill (who has been in since the show started) will share the £50,000 between them.
Oh, can how can we forget ‘The Poem’?
Instead of a rather cringe-worthy speech, the former Munster Rugby Academy star unleashed his inner poet, which we’re betting basically won him the series.
It seemed heartfelt, sweet and funny:
“I’m going to keep this short and sweet, just like when we first came to meet.
“Up in the Hideaway sheltered from the trouble, we instantly connected and formed our own little bubble…
“We have laughs, we have jokes, and you must think ‘Who the hell is this Paddy?’ But that’s okay because deep down I know you’re a Newcastle radgey.
“I’ve never come across a person so unique, from your stand-out hair to the way you speak.
“The perfect balance of honesty and sass… and of course we can’t forget about your gorgeous ass.
“You made my Love Island journey one to remember, and it’s okay if we aren’t the first couple to cross the line, because I’m really into you Amber Rose Gill, and I can’t wait for you to teach me how to control the whine.”
Viewers LOVED it.

And it wasn’t all one-sided.
Amber, in turn, told Greg: “It would be fair to say that I’ve had quite a journey in the villa this summer. There have been so many highs and then some lows, but then along came Greg.
“Thank you for helping to build me back up. You’ve always been so sweet and lovely to me and you’ve managed to bring out my soft side…”
YES. HE TREATED HER RIGHT.
Worthy winners, if we do say so ourselves.
